To be eligible for an ESI card, an individual needs to be registered under the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). ESIC is a statutory body established under ESI Act, 1948, which provides social security benefits to employees or workers in the organized sector. Registration under the ESI scheme is necessary under the following conditions:
- Employer has more than 10 employees.
- Average monthly salary of the employees do not exceed Rs 21,000.
- All the employees need to be under one head or in groups.
Once these conditions are met, employers can register themselves online on the official website for the employees’ state insurance corporation. Employees can provide their details, such as name, address, passport number, bank account number, etc., for registration. Once the registration is approved, the employer will be issued an this card, which will be used as their identity card.
