Quantity Surveyor Job Description
A quantity surveyor is a professional practitioner who works critically on the measurement, valuation, and pricing of construction work. As a quantity surveyor, you will be responsible for handling pre- and post-contract administration tasks, as well as for providing advice on contractual and financial aspects of civil engineering. You will also be working with subcontractors and managing the costs of construction projects.
Quantity Surveyor Responsibilities Include:
- Measuring quantities from drawings, diagrams, plans, and models.
- Analyzing construction drawings, plans, and blueprints.
- Preparing budget estimates, cost management, taking into account labor costs, material costs, and timeframes.
- Preparing bills of quantities, tenders, tender assessments, and risk evaluation.
- Adhering to safety regulations on worksites.
Job Brief
- Work with subcontractors: Liaise with subcontractors to ensure that the quality of the work meets specifications. Ensure subcontractors are paid on time without any issues.
- Manage project costs: Provide advice regarding project costs to clients, taking into account the objectives of the project, material costs, labor costs, and project duration.
- Review budgets and contracts: Brittly review budgets and contracts, making suggestions for improvement and protecting the client from any potential issues.
- Communication: Stay in touch with clients and subcontractors, answering questions and ensuring that everybody is on the same page.
- Analytical skills: Utilize your analytical skills to interpret technical documents, and assess the associated risks and costs of various types of projects.

Requirements and Skills
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Project Management, or a related field. Completion of a postgraduate program or course is a plus.
- Experience: At least three years of working experience in Quantity Surveying. Understanding of contracts, arbitration, and adjudication.
- Software skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, building information modeling (BIM), and quantity surveying specific software.
- Organizational skills: Possess the ability to work on multiple tasks at all times and must be able to manage and prioritize tasks to meet strict deadlines.
- Communication skills: Excellent communicating skills in both oral and written English. Ability to effectively communicate with clients and subcontractors.
