Shift Manager Job Description
A shift manager is someone responsible for supervising and coordinating activities within a workplace during particular periods of time, or “shifts.” This job usually requires leadership skills, problem-solving skills, organizational knowledge and awareness of safety regulations. In some cases, formal management experience may be required. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to multitask and remain calm in stressful situations.
Shift Manager Responsibilities Include:
- Directing the workforce and monitoring employees to ensure compliance with safety and administrative standards.
- Evaluating workloads, assigning tasks and managing shifts-in-progress
- Providing guidance and assistance to subordinates
- Maintaining records, documents and other information as required by the company or industry
- Taking disciplinary action when necessary

Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate and direct daily work activities for a given shift in accordance with company rules, policies and procedures
- Schedule staff and assign duties
- Supervise staff performance and enforce disciplinary action when necessary.
- Initiate and implement quality control and productivity improvements.
- Investigate and investigate concerns and complaints raised by employees or customers.
- Communicate with supervisors, team leaders and other managers to coordinate activities and obtain information.
- Ensure safety and security in the workplace.
- Instill a sense of team spirit amongst staff and encourage open communication.
