About IB Solar
IB Solar is India’s leading manufacturer of high-efficiency solar panels, advanced energy-storage systems, and integrated solar solutions. A division of Integrated Batteries India Private Limited, the organization has been in business since 1992 and is headquartered in Noida. The company holds BIS and ALMM approvals and reports over 500+ completed projects. With over three decades of experience, IB Solar operates a 1.5 GW solar module manufacturing facility.
The company is now expanding with a proposed 2 GW solar cell manufacturing facility and an integrated 3 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) assembly unit near the Noida International Airport, Jewar, targeted to begin commercial operations by December 2027.
The company has around 200 employees, including skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled blue-collar staff and white-collar teams. This means that HR has to manage very different attendance patterns and pay structures under one roof.
Challenges that IB Solar faced
Earlier, IB Solar relied on Excel for payroll processing. This led to their team spending 10–15 days per cycle – compiling employee data, verifying attendance, and calculating salaries for blue-collar employees working rotating shifts.
Payroll management through Excel:
IB Solar relied on Excel sheets to manage its monthly payroll. The HR team had to manually compile attendance records, employee salary details, and other data before processing salaries. Handling this across multiple spreadsheets required repeated checks and increased the team’s workload every month.
Payroll processing took 10–15 days every month:
Completing a single payroll cycle took IB Solar’s HR team around 10 to 15 days. A significant amount of time went into collecting employee data, checking attendance records, and preparing salary calculations.
Difficulties in tracking blue-collar employee shifts:
Another major challenge of IB Solar was managing attendance and shift data for blue-collar employees. Plant employees worked rotating shifts, including 8 AM–8 PM and 8 PM–8 AM schedules. The HR team had to manually track and reconcile these shifts, making shift-based salary calculations particularly time-consuming.
Why did IB Solar choose Superworks?
Superworks became the solution for IB Solar because the company’s HR manager had earlier experience with the platform. When IB Solar were considering different HR software for their business, the company’s HR manager, Ms Nandita Tomar, recommended Superworks, as she had used the platform in her previous organization. Three factors sealed the decision of IB Solar to go with Superworks.
Screen tracking for work-from-home monitoring:
The ability to monitor work-from-home employees through screen tracking was a non-negotiable requirement. In the client’s evaluation, other HR platforms they considered did not offer it.
HRMS & payroll on one platform:
Buying payroll, HRMS and tracking as separate modules would have cost more. The integrated Superworks platform delivered everything in one place at a better price.
Responsive support team:
The IB Solar team praised the Superworks support team for their ability to resolve issues quickly during and after rollout.
How Superworks helped IB Solar?
With Superworks, IB Solar got two key modules – Super HRMS and Super Payroll.
Super HRMS automated their core HR and provided employee self-service. This way, IB Solar can manage its entire workforce, and the team can perform certain HR tasks on their own without raising queries to HR every single time.
With Super Payroll, complex salary calculations, including the latest PF and ESIC structure changes, are handled easily, and all the employees’ attendance data flows directly into payroll instead of being compiled manually. The result?
Reduced payroll processing time:
Earlier, the completion of a payroll cycle used to take days, because teams had to do it manually. With Super Payroll, it now takes a day.
Easy shift-pay calculation:
The data for rotating shifts were once managed manually in Excel. Shift pay is now calculated automatically, with attendance flowing straight into payroll.
Statutory compliance rule changes get taken care of:
Every statutory change used to mean reworking formulas manually. These updates are now applied within the platform, which keeps IB Solar’s payroll aligned with the current PF and ESIC changes.
What’s next for IB Solar?
As IB Solar continues to expand its operations, the company is planning to explore Superworks’ Super Performance to evaluate employee performance more effectively. This will further enhance its HR operations and help align employee performance with the company’s business goals.
