Plan Your Taxes Better Every Year With Smart Income Tax Calculator!

Looking for a tool to calculate income tax accurately? Our smart Income Tax calculator helps you calculate taxes with ease. Try it now!

TL; DR

How much tax will you actually pay this year, or what are the tax slabs under the old regime and the new regime? Get accurate answers with our Income Tax Calculator that does the tax calculation math instantly for you. Just enter your annual income and, if you’re comparing the old regime, your eligible deductions, and that’s it. The tool computes your tax liability under both regimes side by side, so you can see exactly which one saves you more before you file.

Filing your income tax return starts with one key decision: old regime or new regime? Since the government made the new regime the default, most taxpayers assume it’s automatically the better deal, but that’s not always true. If you’ve invested in ELSS funds, pay a home loan EMI, claim HRA on rent, or hold a health insurance policy, the old regime’s deductions could still work out cheaper.

The problem is that comparing the two isn’t a simple side-by-side math exercise. Each regime has its own exemption limits and standard deductions, and these figures are revised almost every budget cycle. Manually working on them is where most people make errors.

Our Income Tax Calculator does all the tax calculations for you.

Why guessing your tax liability costs you money?

Whether you are a salaried employee or a business owner in India, you will come across the same decision-making challenge: either to stick with the new tax regime’s lower rates or opt for the old regime and claim deductions you’ve already invested in. If you get it wrong, you will either pay more tax than necessary or lose out on refundable deductions. A tax regime calculator removes the guesswork. Instead of working manually, you get an accurate, instant comparison.

Old regime vs new regime: what’s actually different?

Wondering what separates the new tax regime from the old tax regime? Here’s the answer for you:

New tax regime (default regime):

  • Lower tax rates across seven income slabs.
  • Standard deduction of ₹75,000 for salaried employees and pensioners.
  • Section 87A rebate of up to ₹60,000, making income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free.
  • Most exemptions and deductions (80C, 80D, HRA, LTA) are not available.

Old regime (opt-in):

  • Higher tax rates, but access to 70+ exemptions and deductions
  • Standard deduction of ₹50,000
  • Section 87A rebate available up to ₹5 lakh taxable income
  • Ideal for taxpayers with significant investments, home loan interest, or insurance premiums

Note: The income tax slabs here are based on Budget 2026. Always cross-check the latest figures before filing.

Which regime should you choose?

  • If your total eligible deductions (80C + 80D + HRA + home loan interest) cross roughly ₹4 lakh.
  • If your deductions are minimal or you don’t claim HRA, the new regime’s lower slab rates and higher rebate threshold typically win.
  • Salaried employees can switch between regimes every financial year while filing ITR. Those with business income face restrictions on switching back once they’ve moved to the new regime.

How does the tax calculation work?

Here’s the step-by-step tax calculation process:

Determine gross total income:

Add up all your taxable income sources for the financial year. This will be your starting figure before any deductions are applied.

Subtract exemptions & standard deduction:

Every salaried employee and pensioner gets a standard deduction. ₹75,000 under the new regime and ₹50,000 under the old regime are applied automatically, regardless of which deductions you claim.

Apply eligible deductions (Old regime):

If you’ve opted for the old regime, subtract deductions like 80C investments, 80D health insurance premiums, HRA exemption, and home loan interest.

Compute net taxable income:

What’s left after Step 2 (and Step 3, if applicable) is your net taxable income. The figure that actually gets taxed according to the slab rates.

Apply tax slabs:

Your net taxable income is taxed progressively across each slab, at the rate applicable to that slab.

Add cess & adjust TDS:

A 4% Health and Education Cess is added to your total tax (after subtracting the Section 87A rebate, if eligible). Any TDS already deducted by your employer through the year is then adjusted against this final liability.

How to use this Income Tax calculator?

Select your tax regime:

Toggle between New Regime and Old Regime at the top. The new regime auto-applies the ₹75,000 standard deduction and rebates up to ₹7L taxable income; the old regime needs your deductions entered to compete.

Enter your annual gross income:

Type in your gross income or drag the slider to match. This is your income before deductions, not your take-home pay.

Add your total deductions:

If you’re comparing regimes, enter your combined 80C, 80D, HRA, and other eligible deductions here. Skip this field if you’re only checking your New Regime liability.

Check your result:

Your total tax payable appears instantly on the right, with a full breakup – taxable income, income tax, 4% cess and a side-by-side comparison with the other regime.

Conclusion

Choosing between the old and new tax regimes becomes much easier when you can see the numbers clearly. Instead of manually working through tax slabs, deductions, rebates, and cess, explore our Income Tax Calculator that gives you a quick estimate based on your income and eligible deductions.
